...a perfect combination of history, drama and humor that make this a fascinating and enjoyable read. I loved this book...

This book provides a fascinating account of modern commercial airlines and the challenging and under appreciated rigors of becoming an airline pilot, especially for those not in the military. The subject matter is outside my usual areas of interest but Chaulk skillfully uses his hard earned expertise, homegrown sense of humor and unique writing style to make even the most technical aspects easy and fun to understand.

I learned a lot about the dedication, sacrifice and stress involved in becoming a pilot and the evolution of the commercial airplane. There is a perfect combination of history, drama and humor that make this a fascinating and enjoyable read. I loved this book and recommend it to people of all ages, interests and backgrounds!

...a deeply personal story of PTSD. A great read for anyone interested in the airline industry.

Great story, very compelling. It’s an inside look at the machinations of major airlines as well as a deeply personal story of PTSD. A great read for anyone interested in the airline industry. Alan Chaulk is a gifted writer.

MUST READ FOR ASPIRING PILOTS. EYE OPENER

Alan has written an engrossing, can't put it down account of the triumphs, tragedies, and close calls of being a modern airline pilot.

Unlike most of his peers, Alan’s rise from groundling to pilot was strictly civilian, and he does a magnificent job of describing the challenges of doing it the hard way. Collision Avoidance is a great title for a variety of reasons, because it encapsulates the many types of collisions he had to avoid: not merely plane-to-plane, but civilian versus ex-military pilots, clueless or greedy management versus flight crews, and culture clashes both domestic and international.

Whether you’re a pilot, a frequent (or occasional) airline passenger, flight crew, or someone who looks up in delight whenever a plane passes overhead, you’ll love Collision Avoidance.
